Turtle Bunbury Author

Tuesday January 05 2010

2009 was an amazing year for Rathvilly writer, Turtle Bunbury whose book, Vanishing Ireland, Further Chronicles of a Disappearing World, stayed at the top of the best sellers list in December.

'2009 worked for me,' he said, delighted. 'I couldn't believe it how well the book did over Christmas.'

Vanishing Ireland details the lives of older people who reminisce on how things were in Ireland and how things have changed since then.

This is Turtle's seventh book and has proven so successful that he and photographer, James Fennell, have been asked by its publishers, Hachette, to work on a third volume.

2010 will be a busy year for the writer who is a member of the Rathdonell family from Lisnavagh.

Hailing from a family steeped in history, Turtle will concentrate on developing and writing the history of other clans. He'll take essential details such as dates, relationships and careers and place them within an historical context.

'I'll try to bring them to life,' he explained before adding that he and James will release a book on Irish sporting heroes in the autumn.

Valentine's weekend will be especially romantic for the writer and his wife, Ally, when they visit Monte Carlo as Turtle has been invited to give a lecture to the Princess Grace Library in the exclusive millionaire's retreat.

As for new year's resolutions, Turtle said that he had 'about 150 of them' but couldn't remember them all by the time January 1 rolled around.
