THERE'S A Valentine treat in store on Saturday, February 18, at 8pm when Opera Theatre Company, the national opera touring company of Ireland presents 'The Magic Flute' at The GB Shaw Theatre.

This enchanting and evocative masterpiece is Mozart's final and most popular operatic piece. A lyrical love story, this Carlow show marks the end of the nationwide tour which has thrilled audiences at sold out venues across the country.

The Magic Flute will appeal to all, whether you are attending opera for the first time or as a seasoned opera-goer. Set against an atmospheric backdrop of fantasy and mischief with the Queen of the Night determined to use her only daughter Pamina as a pawn in the continuing war with her estranged husband, Sarastro. She recruits Tamino, a prince and Papageno, a bird-catcher to steal her daughter away from her father. Will Tamino survive his dangerous quest? Will Papageno find the woman of his dreams? And will love prevail over hate?

Sung in English and directed by Annilese Miskimmon, Opera Theatre Company's chamber ensemble performs the captivating score with Music Direction by Brenda Hurley. Tickets for the show itself are available online at www.gbshawtheatre.ie or from the Box Office on 059 9172400.
