Saoirse not nominated for 'Lovely Bones' role

Tuesday February 09 2010

SAOIRSE Ronan's name was not among those called out last week when this year's Oscar nominations were announced.

The 15-year-old star was hotly tipped for a nomination by the Film Academy for her challenging role as Susie Salmon in the soon-to-be-released The Lovely Bones.

The Ardattin resident attracted the attention of film critics and buffs alike for the movie in which she plays a young girl who was raped and murdered by her neighbour. Her performance was feted by critics who attribute to her a natural acting talent that will ensure the transition from child star to awardwinning actress.

Unfortunately, the Oscar nomination for her role wasn't to be, but she did win the gong for best young actress for the Susie Salmon role in the Critics' Choice Awards.

Saoirse has also secured a nomination for best leading actress in the prestigious BAFTA awards, while the Ronan mantlepiece in Ardattin is already adorned with awards from her previously acclaimed role in the film Atonement.

And even if she won't be sashaying up the red carpet at this year's Oscars, the girl is now so experienced at attending glitzy award ceremonies and premiers that she could probably give lessons in it!
