YOUNG CARLOW STAR Saoirse Ronan is hotly tipped to win an Oscar next year, as director Peter Jackson has decided o postpone the release of his film The Lovely Bones to later in the year.
The 15-year-old from Ardattin is favoured to receive her second Oscar nomination for her starring role. The movie was due to open last March, but now will be released in December to fit in with the annual film awards season. Saoirse plays teenager Susie Salmon, who has been raped and murdered and watches over her family, and her killer, from heaven.
She was nominated for an Academy Award for her role in Atonement alongside Keira Knightley, who plays the lead role in the movie based on the bestselling novel by Alice Sebold.
The moving tale of The Lovely Bones co-stars Irish-American actor Mark Wahlberg and Rachel Weisz as Susie's parents, and Susan Sarandon as the grandmother. Stanley Tucci plays the disturbed man who kills Susie and since the trailer for the film became available, film critics and movie buff bloggers have been pushing for the Carlow teenager to be nominated for the Oscar.
