He's wowed the judges – but needs your votes

Tuesday February 16 2010

VOTE EARLY and vote often! That's the message that talented schoolboy David Lofts is putting out this week after he scooped the highest score ever on RTÉ's All Ireland Talent Show.

David, a native of Tyknock and a student at Coláiste Eoin in Hacketstown, wowed the judging panel to secure 39 marks out of a possible 40.

But even though David impressed the panel with his version of Paulo Nutini's Last Request, he still didn't win the public telephone vote.

That honour went to the Tuam All Star Gymnastics Team, a troupe of lively youngsters who obviously have a lot of family members to vote for them.

'The show is all about support and there were so many on the gymnastics team they ended up winning,' David said, yesterday, Monday. 'I was more excited than nervous before I went on but then, when I was waiting for the results, I got really, really nervous.'

David was chosen as the wild card by the judges and will now appear on Sunday alongside seven other contestants.

In order to secure as many votes as possible, David is stepping up his publicity campaign. Apart from interviews with the local media, he's also visiting towns, villages and backwaters to make the public aware of his upcoming performance.

David will appear on the All Ireland Talent Show on RTE 1 on Sunday at 6.30 p.m.
