Military prevents Honduran President from returning
The Honduran military has prevented President Manuel Zelaya from returning to the country by blocking the runway at the main airport in Tegucigalpa.
Mr Zelaya was overthrown by the military just over a week ago, with soldiers detaining him in the middle of the night and flying him into forced exile in Costa Rica.
One of his opponents, Roberto Micheletti, was sworn in as his replacement, but the international community has refused to recognise the coup and has demanding that Mr Zelaya be reinstated.
Over the weekend, Honduras was suspended from the Organisation of American States as a result of the military's actions.
Mr Zelaya attempted to return to his country yesterday in a Venezuelan plane, but the aircraft was forced to turn away because the runway was blocked by military vehicles and groups of soldiers.
At least one man was also shot in the head by security forces during huge protests at the airport in support of the ousted President.
